1-2-3…Go!

25 03 2011

We often use this counting phrase

To get DD out the door

To make any trip an adventure

To encourage her to express excitement

We say ‘1-2-3…’ and DD finishes

Shouting cheerily and clearly her intention

How do you motivate yourself/family?

I use “let’s go X” to gymnastics, play in the mud, to visit friends – anything better than standing around in the hallway πŸ˜‰

For some reason DD likes to bring her shoes into the kitchen and put them on there. So for us, it isn’t so much standing around in the hallway waiting to go as it is “standing around in the kitchen” – LOL. πŸ™‚

We’re on a similar page today!
“Last one is a stinky sock! Ready, set, GO!”

Mostly I just don’t go out. Cuts down on the need to motivate. (Kidding! Sort of! Mostly!)

Yes, I hear you. Sometimes staying in is all the energy I can muster too.

We like a good “race” so I’ll say, ” I’m going to *whatever* faster than you” or something like that.

I bet that challenge gets you a giggle and a motivated little one ‘on the go’. πŸ™‚

I have run out of go, myself, and so it is a pleasure to see it so solidly in a moving, lovely, little girl.

I hope you get your ‘go’ back soon!

I used to use this technique when my kids were little. Now if I say, 1….2…3….they reply “Bye”! lol That’s teenagers for you. I’m the only one “go-ing”!
Really enjoyed this Mel! Great job!

counting still works for us, but unfortunately it’s in a more threatening manner…”you have 10 seconds to do so and so….10, 9, 8,” etc.
My boys are 5 and 10, and they inherited their mothers procrastination traits. ugh.

Tessa – I know those days are ahead of me too. I can hardly wait. πŸ˜‰

Mel,

This is such a sweet post. It evokes memories of when my son was a toddler. Thanks for the memories……..cj

Thanks, CJ. I’m collecting memories of this time for later too. πŸ™‚
