Lights out for Earth Hour

27 03 2010

Tonight at 8:30 p.m. (local time), make a point to switch off for Earth Hour 2010.

Earth Hour began in 2007 and is now a global event. It challenges every individual, business and community throughout the world to switch off their lights, TVs, computers, etc. for one hour, one day a year in support of our planet.

In March 2009, millions of people in over 4000 cities in 88 countries officially switched off for Earth Hour, making Earth Hour 2009 the world’s largest global climate change initiative. This year over 125 countries and territories plan to participate.

The official website for Earth Hour lists many ways you can participate and help spread the word about Earth Hour. Organizers are encouraging people to capture the moment by uploading Earth Hour photos to Flickr, adding videos to YouTube and tweeting their plans on Twitter (hashtag #earthhour).

My plans for Earth Hour are simple. I’ll be spending some quality time with my husband and daughter talking and laughing amidst the candlelight.

Happy Earth Hour everyone!
